INFF Location Tour 2025
During the INFF Location Tour 2025, Tirol showcased its most cinematic landscapes – an inspiring film destination for future audiovisual productions set amidst the majestic Alps.
Brilliant sunshine over the glacier, mild autumn light in the valleys and cinematic panoramas in every direction – the Heart of the Alps revealed its most impressive side during the INFF Location Tour 2025. In cooperation with the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival, Film in AUSTRIA, the Pitztal Tourism Board and the Seefeld Tourism Board, the Cine Tirol Film Commission had the pleasure of introducing both national and international filmmakers to Tirol’s extraordinary film locations.
The aim of this two-day Location – or Familiarisation – Tour was to highlight Tirol’s creative and logistical potential as a film location and to inspire future film productions in the Alps.
Day 1: Glaciers, Peaks and Culinary Delights in the Pitztal Valley
The first day took participants, together with Oliver Gartzke from the Pitztal Tourism Board, up to spectacular heights – to the impressive Café 3440 on the Pitztal Glacier, the highest café in Austria. Surrounded by sparkling snow and radiant sunshine, the group experienced a setting that called out for adventure, emotion and storytelling on the big screen.
The journey continued to the Hochzeiger, glowing in vibrant autumn colours, where participants raced downhill on Zirbencarts – an exhilarating experience that perfectly captured the region’s energy, diversity and joie de vivre. Along the way, traditional Tyrolean specialities and culinary highlights provided enjoyable breaks.
Sustainability played an essential role throughout the day: travel was organised by e-bus, with local partners accompanying the group. The evening concluded in Innsbruck’s historic old town at the Restaurant Weißes Rössl, where Nina Keidies from Film in AUSTRIA offered valuable insights into nationwide film funding opportunities and collaborations across Austria.
Day 2: Natural and Cultural Film Settings in Seefeld
Day two began with a scenic train ride from Innsbruck to Seefeld – a sustainable journey offering new perspectives on Tirol’s landscape and infrastructure. There, the group was welcomed by Tessa Mellinger from the Seefeld Tourism Board, who guided them through the charming town centre while sharing fascinating insights into the region.
Later, a short bus ride led into the Gaistal Valley, where a circular hike to the Gaistalalm unveiled a variety of cinematic backdrops – from tranquil forests to majestic peaks and traditional alpine huts, offering endless possibilities for audiovisual storytelling.
A hearty Tyrolean lunch at Gaistalalm rounded off the day before returning to Innsbruck – just in time for the opening of the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival, where the impressions and conversations from the tour naturally flowed into the evening’s events.
Nature, Knowledge and Sustainability in Filmmaking
Throughout the tour, the group was accompanied by Stefanie Pontasch from the Tyrolean Environmental Ombudsman’s Office, who shared captivating insights into geology, flora, fauna and environmental protection. Her expertise underlined the strong connection between Tirol’s natural diversity and sustainable film production – a core value of the Cine Tirol Film Commission.
Conclusion: Tirol – A Film Location Full of Possibilities
After two inspiring days between glaciers and alpine meadows, urban charm and untouched nature, one message remained clear: Tirol’s diversity holds countless stories waiting to be discovered, told and brought to life on screen.
The Cine Tirol Film Commission looks forward to continuing to support filmmakers in realising their projects – from the first idea to the final take on location.
