„Our Girls“ in Tirol


Our Girls (OT: Voor de Meisjes) by Oscar-winning director Mike van Diem – a gripping family drama, filmed in the Tyrolean Alps, will have its premiere as the opening film of the Netherlands Film Festival 2025.

 

The film stars Noortje Herlaar, Fedja van Huêt, Thekla Reuten, Valentijn Dhaenens, Rosa van Leeuwen, and Frédérique van Baarsen. Several of the lead actors have already been awarded the Gouden Kalf, the most prestigious Dutch film prize – including Noortje Herlaar, Fedja van Huêt, and Thekla Reuten.

Our Girls is directed and written by Mike van Diem, who won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1998 for his debut feature Character. The film is based on the novel We doen wat we kunnen by Lykele Muus and was produced by Keplerfilm and Nuts & Bolts Film Company in co-production with Schubert Füm GmbH and A Private View. Worldwide distribution is handled by LevelK, while the theatrical release in the Netherlands is by Dutch FilmWorks and in Austria by Filmladen Filmverleih. The film will open the 45th edition of the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) in Utrecht on 26 September 2025.

Plot:

For years, two couples have spent their summer holidays together in a vacation home in the Austrian Alps in Tirol. The idyll shatters when their teenage daughters are involved in a tragic accident. While the parents do everything they can to save their own daughter, old conflicts resurface and buried truths come to light. What begins as a moral dilemma escalates into a fierce struggle in which boundaries blur, raising the question: Are there really any limits when it comes to protecting your child?

The film received financial support from the Netherlands Film Fund, Eurimages, and the Cine Tirol Film Commission. Filming took place from 23 September to 17 October 2024.
