The Alpine power place

In peaceful Maurach, embedded between Lake Achensee and the mountains, those seeking relaxation can recharge their batteries in enchanting nature without having to worry about their carbon footprint.

Not far from the south shore in Maurach am Achensee, the alpine power place has its headquarters. In addition to the building and the large spa area, the hotel particularly impresses with its garden, which is Austria’s largest alpine botanical hotel garden with over 10,000 m2. Lovingly tended and designed, the Residenzgarten resembles a colourful bouquet of flowers from spring to autumn. A wide variety of colours bloom here: next to lush green meadows, yellow reeds decorate the natural bathing pond and rosy water lilies swim through the crystal-clear water.

Valuable ecosystem
Due to its size, the garden is an important habitat for regional animal and plant species that find their home there. That is why a conscious decision was made to build a natural bathing pond instead of a swimming pool. Wolfgang Kostenzer, senior manager, explains: ‚Sustainability has always been a guiding principle for us. Both in terms of our management in harmony with the region and the recreational factor of our guests. The Alpine Kraftplatz (power place) is a place where you can create surrounded by untouched energy.‚ Next year, the garden will even be home to a beehive.

Natural gas, solar and biomass
Observing the daily activities of the hotel, the technology in the background may not be too obvious – but to run a business in a sustainable way, it is essential. The Wellness Residence Alpenrose and the new Cocoon are heated with natural gas. On the one hand, electricity is generated by the solar collectors on the roofs, on the other hand, the hotel’s BioTrans system provides energy. With BioTrans, the company has found a suitable solution for the disposal of food waste, because in the large kitchen all the leftovers are converted into a homogeneous biomass. This is pumped out regularly and transported to a biogas plant where it is utilised. In this way, renewable energy is produced from catering waste in an environmentally friendly way. All in all, this efficient way of generating energy results in a CO2 balance of almost 0.

On Tour with the Mini Cooper SE
New to the Alpine power place since 2020 are two Mini Cooper SEs, which offer employees a sustainable way to explore the surrounding area. So on their day off, they can borrow the Mini and take it out for a spin – and in a completely sustainable way, because the Mini Cooper SE is one of the brand’s first models that travels purely electrically.

Well-being place for all
With 92 rooms and around 8,000 m2 of spa area, this alpine power place employs around 150-200 people from the region. They not only enjoy the advantages of a regional business, but also those of the Best Alpine Wellnesshotels with the Alpenrose as one of the founding hotels. As an excellent apprentice training company in Tirol, 14 apprentices are currently being trained. Wolfgang Kostenzer Senior says: ‚Our vision is to create a place where we support our employees and guests alike and help them to inspire their dreams, health and life paths‚.
