Electrician & Best Boy
How did you get into film? What particularly attracted you to beome part of this industry?
After school, I looked into several industries until I got the message that they were looking for ‘work extras’ at the film. I went there and it was done. I got a taste. I was particularly attracted to the work of the technicians and the way a film is made. I liked the lighting department best of all. So I really wanted to work there.
At that time I applied to the TV series ‘Soko Kitzbühel’/Beo-Film. As a classic introduction, they offered me a job as a production driver to get to know the set life better. I jumped at the chance and after a while I switched to the lighting department under the direction of head lighting technician Winna Martin.
What distinguishes Tirol as film region for you?
Tirol has diverse filming locations against a distinctive backdrop. The lighting moods at the different times of day are unique!
Tirol is also interesting because you can find everything imaginable: From the rugged, snow-covered rock in winter, to the lush green pasture by the crystal-clear lake. Tirol also offers the calming, timeless village idyll on the one hand and the urban fast pace just around the corner on the other.
We are curious: Tell us your favourite location in Tirol!
Tirol has so many impressive locations, you can’t choose one!
And now: The stage is yours! Please introduce yourself and your field of activity.
My name is Jan ‘CHE’ Haller. I was born in 1990 in Wörgl, where I went to school at the BRG Wörgl. Shortly after school I switched to the film business. After the classic start as a production driver and camera stage assistant, I switched to the lighting crew. From 2011 to 2015 I worked as a lighting assistant. Since 2015 I have been a electrician and since 2019 Best Boy. I enjoyed my training with Winna Martin, Gaffer (gaffer).
Since then I have been working in various genres of the TV world. From series pilots (‘Die Skilehrer’), TV series (‘Soko Linz’), TV shows (‘GNTM by Heidi Klum’), cinema (‘Safari’) to international commercials (‘Toyota Alphard’).
Besides the film life, I am also active in event technology, where I have been running my company for sound and lighting services since 2017.
In addition to lighting work, my strengths lie in driving heavy machinery such as aggregates, trucks, working platforms and forklifts.
Thank you very much!
