A Whole Life
At the beginning of the 20th century, Andreas Egger arrives as a small orphan boy in the valley where he will spend most of his life. He grows up with the family of his uncle, a mountain farmer who exploits him as cheap labour and where he experiences little love.
At the age of 18, he leaves the farm and signs on as a forestry worker for the construction of a cable car, which is just beginning. Egger didn't mind the hard work and earned his first money. From this he rents some land and a simple wooden hut high up in the mountains. A little later he meets Marie, the love of his life, but their happiness together is short-lived. A dramatic event literally tears her out of his life. At the end of his life of privation, Egger looks back on what has happened with great amazement and no regrets.
