Kaunertal receives Austrian Eco Label

The Kaunertal has been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel for tourism regions. As one of the most sustainability-minded regions in Tyrol, it has received significant recognition for its comprehensive efforts in the areas of climate protection, accessibility and sustainable tourism development.

The award confirms the holistic sustainability strategy, which ranges from nature and climate protection to barrier-free offers and the active involvement of regional stakeholders. “The Austrian Ecolabel stands for concrete, verifiable measures towards climate protection and sustainability. The Kaunertal shows that a sense of ecological and social responsibility can also be successfully practised in tourism,” emphasizes René Zumtobel, Provincial Councillor for the Environment and Nature Conservation. The award is also seen locally as an important confirmation of the path taken. “The Ecolabel is much more than just a symbol for us. It confirms our path of consistent, sustainable development. It not only strengthens the trust of guests and partners, but also motivates us within the region to continue on this path together,” says Dietmar Walser, Managing Director of Erlebnisraum Kaunertal.

Long-term commitment with impact

For many years, the Kaunertal has focused on sustainable development and the protection of its unique natural landscape. As part of the Kaunergrat Nature Park, the region is committed to environmentally friendly tourism, environmental education and the preservation of Alpine biodiversity. The Kaunertal also participates in the Austria-wide KLAR! The Kaunertal is also part of the “Clean Alpine Region” initiative, which promotes climate-friendly mobility and resource-saving tourism solutions. Accessibility is also of particular importance in the Kaunertal. Sustainable mobility is actively promoted through electric shuttles, hiking buses and a deliberately reduced traffic load.

A variety of measures – one common goal

The commitment to sustainability is complemented by projects such as Alpine Awareness Camps, climate hikes, regional value creation initiatives and educational offers for guests and locals. This is not only visible in concepts, but also in daily actions. From the use of regional products to the conscious design of visual language that emphasizes diversity and inclusion. The long-term goal is clear: to establish the Kaunertal as an attractive, barrier-free and climate-conscious destination all year round. With the award of the Austrian Ecolabel, another important milestone has now been reached on this path.
