Cine Tirol is the first film commission worldwide with only Certified Film Commissioners as staff members.
After Johannes Koeck, Head of Cine Tirol, who completed the AFCI training program in 2012, Angelika Pagitz in 2015, Thomas Fuchs in 2016, it is Anna Griesser who finished her studies at AFCI University in 2017.
“We are very proud that the designation of Certified Film Commissioner (CFC) was awarded to all of us after completing the AFCI training program, signifying achievement of the highest level of accomplishment in the profession”, says Johannes Koeck. “Not only the program itself including the courses and master classes lectured by leading experts in the industry made this journey very rewarding – we thoroughly enjoyed the exchange of thoughts and experiences with our fellow film commissioners from many other countries around the world learning a lot from them.”
Today’s film commissioners play many challenging roles at the same time: from promotor to mediator, from economist to publicist, from location scout to lobbyist, from networker to explorer and many more – they are called upon to market their countries or regions, prove the value of their industry through economic reporting, and manage financial incentive programs all while dealing with the increasing demands of production in an high-tech and fast-moving world. AFCI University is committed to provide film commission staff members with the educational tools they need to thrive in this very competitive marketplace.
Johannes Koeck comments: “The production industry has come to expect that an AFCI member film commission will possess a high level of competence and expertise. This is why we are most grateful for the tremendous increase of know-how we gained through the program provided by AFCI which we can implement very usefully in our strategic plans and our daily business. And of course we are extremley delighted to be the very first film commission worldwide run by only Certified Film Commissioners!”
The Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) is the official professional organization for film commissioners who assist film, television and video production throughout the world. AFCI Members are comprised of more than 300 film commissions in 45 countries on six continent.
One of the most important events organized by the AFCI is the “AFCI Locations Show and Global Production & Finance Conference”. This event connects production locations, film funding and media content producers on an international level. Designed as a peer-networking and resource focused platform, the Locations Conference brings together production location exhibitors from over 30 countries and thousands of industry professionals from commercial, film and Television.
The major educational event hosted by the AFCI is the “Cineposium”, which is held annually. This program features professional development seminars designed to teach film commissioners about the management and processes unique to the film commission business.
