How did you get into film? What particularly attracted you to become part of this industry?

We love the cinema. Whether old film classics, the latest audiovisual masterpieces, exciting documentaries or captivating arthouse productions. Immerse yourself and experience the best stories on the big screen. Afterwards, have exciting discussions about editing techniques, storylines and sound design over a glass of beer.

Film offers numerous opportunities to give your creativity space, to constantly develop yourself and to always discover and try out new and fascinating things.

Wolfgang: Originally employed as a technician in tunnel construction, I soon realised that I preferred to edit beautiful pictures on the monitor rather than numbers. I was able to capture these images with a camcorder (which I talked my father into for great holiday videos) either on the mountain while snowboarding or at concerts of my friends. Even then I was fascinated by the technical possibilities in post-production – wow how cool is that iris effect – and only takes 10 mins to render.

I had to deepen this love for images and music and make my passion my profession. Studies at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, employment at LISTO in Vienna and at the Red Bull Mediahouse helped me to professionalise my craft. The step towards self-employment with my own film production was thus paved. After only a short time, Caro enriched the editing room with her creativity and love of film.

Caro: Even as a child, I rarely left the house without a drawing pad and crayons. In the garden, all the flowers, animals and intergalactic space shuttles were then captured in detail and put on paper. The fascination for my environment and the stories therein turned into a distinct passion for books, films and music at an early age. My multimedia studies at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences gave me a broad insight into the entire creative industry and enabled me to take the step towards editing.

What distinguishes Tirol as film region for you?

The special thing about Tirol as a film location is clearly the nature and the sport. In hardly any other country is the infrastructure in the mountains so well developed.

Many top athletes have made Tirol and its spectacular landscape their adopted home. And Tirol can offer many talented and alpine-experienced cameramen.

We think that it is precisely this mixture that makes the film country Tirol something unique.

We are curious: Tell us your favourite location in Tirol!

The Gschnitz Valley, the Schmirn Valley or the Vals Valley – little developed valleys and their breathtaking scenery.

But also Innsbruck with the magnificent Nordketten mountain scenery!

And now: The stage is yours! Please introduce yourselves and your field of activity.

As the German name ‚Schnittraum‘ suggests, our focus is on post-production.

In the edit, individual components become one unit. Only then does the film come to life. The creative possibilities in editing are endless. And that is probably the most exciting challenge.

That is why we see our greatest passion and competence in precisely this area. Editing rhythm, music, sound design, colouring and dramaturgy. Together with our clients, we find the best way to implement them.

But we also take care of complete video projects, from the idea to the final playout.

In pre-production, we concentrate on brainstorming, conception and storytelling. For on-set services, we draw on our broad network of filmmakers. We are happy to direct the film on location.

Our projects cover many different types of film. From classic documentaries, such as Mountain Worlds, to image films for companies, to quick-cut Red Bull clips and social media content for agencies. Our technical and social infrastructure enables us to realise any kind of film.

In October 2020, we launched the FILMBASE together with Lensecape Productions and Fancy Tree Films. On an area of 500 m2 we offer workspaces for filmmakers and other creative minds. A small film and photo studio, our own small cinema and, of course, plenty of cosy open space to create the best ideas are available to us here in Innsbruck. In the meantime, we are a team of 20 people with a wide variety of professions. Through the constant exchange of ideas, knowledge and experience in a cosy atmosphere, we support each other and continue to educate ourselves.

As FILMBASE we are also open to new members. Whether copywriters, graphic designers or 3D artists – we are happy to welcome everyone. A good cup of coffee or a freshly tapped beer is always available.
