Christian Riepler & Martin Glantschnig

Cameramen, Location Scouts, Mountain Guides and owners of Berg im Bild

How did you get into film? What particularly attracted you to become part of this industry?

It all started with photography. In the course of time, Martin tried his hand at his first ski videos and Christian came more and more to the moving image via slide shows as a national park ranger. Interestingly, without knowing it, independently of each other, we both started very soon with time-lapse photography. By working on interesting film projects on the Großglockner, we were able to watch the best alpine filmmakers at their craft and gain important experience. Since 2017, we have been united as the company ‚Berg im Bild‘ and deliver mainly alpine footage. Due to our specialisation in time-lapse, we serve another small niche in which we feel very comfortable.

During various film productions we met interesting people and were able to learn a lot and develop our skills. Filming is even more exciting in the mountains, which can be made much more difficult by several factors. Since there are only a few cameramen in this field who are also mountain guides, we believe that we fit right in here.

What distinguishes Tirol as film region for you?

As mountain guides, we spend a lot of time in the Tyrolean mountains. The beauty of this natural and cultural landscape offers many wonderful motifs, which we want to capture with our cameras in various ways. We particularly appreciate the unspoilt mountain world of East Tirol, where you can still find a lot of unspoilt nature.

We are curious: Tell us your favourite location in Tirol!

The Großglockner. As mountain guides, we know practically every corner there. The striking mountain offers interesting possibilities for every kind of filming from all exposures.

And now: The stage is yours! Please introduce yourselves and your cinematic field of activity.

As ‚Berg im Bild‘ we mainly deliver alpine footage. Whether as wall cameramen or high alpine, as mountain guides we combine two professions here and can therefore work very autonomously.
Due to our local knowledge, especially in the Hohe Tauern, we also offer our know-how as location scouts.

A special focus of our work is time-lapse photography. With elaborate technology we produce moving timelapses, which are then processed into 8K video sequences with special software.
