How did you get into film? What particularly attracted you to become part of this industry?

There is something simply ‚fantastic‘ about filmmaking for me and I would describe it not only as a passion, but almost as a desire. You know that intense and motivating feeling you get after a really good film? When you feel like a superhero afterwards, like you can pull out trees and you want to go out into the world and make a difference, like there are no limits or obstacles. Films have such a power for me that fascinates and inspires me.

I love being on a film set and seeing the weeks, months or even years of hard work come to life on the monitor for the first time. When so many great, talented and creative people pull together and put all the theory of preproduction into practice. That is a very special feeling.

I think those are some of the things that got me into film and reasons why I would love nothing more in my life, despite all the difficulties that come your way in filmmaking. I love to tell stories and films for me, as an audiovisual medium, are a great way to inspire, evoke and empower emotions and take you to another world. I think it’s just beautiful.

What distinguishes Tirol as film region for you?

Tirol is not only a province very rich in history, but also offers a very special experience for the eye and the soul. In Tirol you find kitschy, sweet old towns, alpine pastures, lakes and rivers, glaciers, castles, spectacular high mountains and exciting people. As a filmmaker, I was often amazed at how helpful and motivated the people in our province responded to my requests. It is a country where others spend their holidays. It’s just a pity that many of my friends and acquaintances from the film industry go to Vienna because they hope to get better and bigger jobs there. I would like to see more Tyroleans who work in the film industry stay in Tirol so that the productions are better distributed throughout Austria.

We are curious: Tell us your favourite location in Tirol!

Through my former work in television, I have been to almost every corner of Tirol and have been able to see many breathtaking locations. However, I can only think of one location that makes my heart leap every time: the Nordkette. Whether I’m coming from the city, arriving at the train station, standing in Maria-Theresien-Strasse or up in the Kar-Rinne, the Nordkette simply does it for me, the way it towers over beautiful Innsbruck.

And now: The stage is yours! Please introduce yourself and your field of activity.

Hi, my name is Laurin Gausch and I have been working professionally in the film industry since 2013. In the past, I was allowed to work in very many departments, both in preproduction and in the shooting phase and post-production, which gives me a good feeling and understanding for the big picture. Currently, however, I work mainly as a producer, writer and director, with my heart beating most strongly for directing and writing.

After my internship at ARRI Film&TV Munich, I completed various internships at agencies and feature film productions. While working as a producer and programme manager for local television, I founded my own company ‚Gauschfilm‘, with which I still produce business films, music videos and documentaries. In 2021, I produced the narrative VOD series ‚WTF happened‘ for A1 Now TV together with my colleagues Gitti Wirnharter and Gregor Perle, where I was responsible for the scripts and direction in addition to the production. In July 2022 I will also finish my Master’s degree in Multimedia Art Film at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.

If anyone still needs support with the realisation of her or his film, I would be very happy to hear from you! I always like to meet new people and always have an open ear for exciting projects. 😊
